Peter Kalmus (SK)

Visual artist, performer, actor, and activist. From his early youth in the 1970s, during the normalization period, he was a prominent part of the unofficial art scene. He lived in Košice and cultivated close relations with the local alternative community and the Czech underground, and since 1973, he was a member of the Jazz Section of the Union of Musicians of the Czechoslovak Republic, known for its activities and publications in visual and conceptual art as well. He was a signatory of the petition Niekoľko viet (Few Sentences), in November 1989 he co-founded the Civic Forum in Košice. He organized several demonstrations and protests against cultural and political actions. In his work, he often explores the relationship between life and art through his own person. He creates drawings, graphics, paintings, objects, assemblages, installations, actions, and performances.
